Disaster Debris Pickup

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

As I strolled through my neighborhood this PM, I was astonished at the number of homes with soggy debris on the curb. My neighborhood was certainly not as hard hit as many, but it appears that a significant number of homeowners experienced some damage.

The good news is that Metro Nashville Public Works is planning to pick up the debris. The very specific guidelines for collection can be found on their website, www.nashville.gov/pw.  Note: no TVs or computers. As of next week, the collection schedules for your area will be posted on the site as well.

Best Flood Information Resource

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

Like many of you, I have received information, warnings, & advice regarding the recent flood from many different sources–not all of them trustworthy. So this afternoon, I cruised the Internet looking for sources of useful & reliable information. (Specifically I wanted to know when  the K.R. Harrington Water Treatment Plant would reopen. Dirty cars & bucket showers are ok for a while, but how long will this last? ) To my mind, the best one- stop source is http://www.nashville.gov/FLOOD/  This site will answer most citizens’ questions, but if not, it is still a great place to start.

Along the left hand side of the page are tabs such as Clean Up Guidelines, Shelters, and Water Conservation. And no, although the Water Conservation section includes a wealth of information, Metro Public Works  isn’t giving us a date on which service will resume at Harrington.  In government lingo, “We do not have an expected restoration date.” Hmm. Looks like limited toilet flushing continues for the time being.

Ck out what Daily Candy has to say about NashVegas! Many (but certainly not of all) of our favorite dining & shopping establishements are mentioned. I am inspired to take a trip to the Pied Piper Creamery this PM! Yummy!

On Line Auction-No shleping!

Friday, March 19th, 2010

My mom is moving to a smaller house & has engaged McLemore Auction Company to conduct an on-line  sale of what she’s not taking with her. The sale is heavy on old books (imagine that!),  but there are many other interesting items.

Registration & bidding is so easy—even the technologically challenged can handle it! There is also a cool feature where you can send the link to a specific lot directly to a friend. So instead of shleping to an estate sale & standing in the hot sun, enjoy bidding from the comfort of your home!

No minimums, so bid early & bid often. Auction closes at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 21st. Happy bidding!

411 for Traffic Delays

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

My weekend got off to  great start yesterday with a delicious lunch at the Germantown home/photography studio of Kacky Fell.   Get a bunch of sharp gals together (along with  Kacky’s business partner & chef, Phil) & the conversation is bound to be fun & informative.  Among the many useful tips that I picked up was provided by  Judy Steele, Community Relations Director for the TN Department of Transportation. Did you know about the telephone number 511? It’s 411 for traffic info. How cool is that? Eliminate the traffic excuse from your life forever! Thanks TN Dept of Transportation!

Greetings Readers! This is my first post, & I haven’t prepared anything profound b/c it took me all AM to get this set up! But now that I have the hang of it, expect useful real estate information, book recommendations, & anything else I deem worthy of comment!
