Dear Evan Hansen
I LOVED Dear Evan Hansen! And I am obsessed with the music. (You do not want to be in the car with me when I am loudly and tunelessly singing along to “For Forever.”) Ben Platt (Pitch Perfect) is terrific as Evan Hansen and so is the rest of the cast. The one musical you must see this season. I won’t tell you what it’s about because the story sounds so unappealing.
Waitress
We were fortunate enough to catch Jessie Mueller (Tony Award winner for Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) in one her last performances as master pie baker Jenna in the charming musical Waitress. But good news– Mueller has been replaced (only through June 11) by Waitress composer-lyricist and five-time Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles.
Bareilles previously sang much of the score on her concept album for the show, What’s Inside: Songs from Waitress. She is making her Broadway debut. Despite her limited acting experience, I can’t imagine that she won’t be wonderful.
