The Dry by Jane Harper
The Dry, a first novel by Jane Harper, takes place in a small, rain starved farm community in Australia. Federal Agent Aaron Falk returns to his hometown for the first time in twenty years to attend the funeral of his childhood friend Luke.
Luke’s parents are not satisfied with the police version of the gruesome deaths of Luke and his family, and ask Falk to investigate further. But not everyone appreciates Falk nosing around, especially when Falk suspects that the murders are linked to the long-suppressed events that drove Falk and his father from their home two decades ago.
Somewhat predictable, but Harper nails the oppressive atmosphere of a small community.
