If you know a clueless 20-something or were one yourself, you will appreciate this delightful movie shot in black and white on location in New York City.
Frances is a 27-year-old dancer whose lackluster career as an apprentice at a dance company is on its last legs. Frances’s stumbling steps towards adulthood are funny and familiar. You know the drill—earnest, boozy conversations about relationships, precarious living arrangements and finances, flashes of enthusiasm followed by two days flopped on the sofa.
Frances is played with great charm by Greta Gerwig who co-wrote the script with boyfriend and director Noah Baumbach. Also featured are Grace Gummer (Meryl Streep’s daughter) and dancer/actress Charlotte d’Amboise.
