Louise Penny the Madness of Crowds
As soon as I finished the seventeenth Chief Inspector Gamache novel, I complained to anyone who would listen! For those of you who missed my rants—-The Madness of Crowds is terrible. If you haven’t read the Gamache novels, the earlier ones are wonderful and original, but Ms. Penny has run out of steam. Interesting to see if partnering with budding author Hilary Clinton will refresh her creativity!
Michael Connelly The Dark Hours: A Renée Ballard and Harry Bosch novel
Even in retirement, Detective Harry Bosch still solves crimes. Having informally partnered with LAPD detective Renée Ballard in three earlier novels, the duo teams up again in The Dark Hours. The Harry Bosch series is a wildly successful franchise for a reason; Connelly is a master of the police procedural.
Richard Osman The Man Who Died Twice: A Thursday Murder Club Mystery
The four crafty seniors from the Coopers Chase retirement village return in the second Thursday Murder Club mystery. When an old friend of Elizabeth’s is accused of stealing diamonds from the wrong person, the foursome agrees to shelter him at Coopers Chase. When the bodies begin to pile up, the amateur sleuths spring (slowly) into action. Just as witty as the first novel in the series!
