A new publication from Seth Godin, author of twelve bestselling books, always creates some buzz. But the release of his new book, Poke the Box, has provoked as much discussion for the method of distribution as for the text itself.
Unlike Seth’s previous books, Poke the Box is not published by a traditional publisher, but rather by The Domino Project a joint venture between Seth and amazon.com. Now this is big news not only because Seth says it is(!), but because it represents a completely new system for getting books to readers.
Below are links to various interviews that Seth has given in the past few weeks concerning The Domino Project and Poke the Box. I was particularly intrigued by his interview with Dave Garland in which he discusses the future of bookstores. Alternative publishing is a subject on which Seth is intensely passionate. It will be interesting to see the reaction in the publishing world.
As for Poke the Box, it is a short book (83 pages) about the importance of getting started, taking initiative, assuming risk, strategically failing, and poking the box—all subjects on which Seth is certainly qualified to address. Don’t let the zippy cover or brevity fool you—there are some good ideas here.
