The action (there is no real plot) revolves around the romantic lives of several Italian (with subtitles) and American couples who reside in or visit Rome.
It is completely silly (and 15 minutes too long,) but beautiful!
As always, Allen has gathered a superb cast. Jesse Eisenberg plays the goofy young American student. Alec Baldwin is wonderful as his friend/specter, and Ellen Page spot on as a pretentious, self-absorbed actress. The Italian tenor Fabio Armiliato plays a singing mortician. (He performs under such ridiculous circumstances, that I can only conclude that he is the best natured man in opera.)
Rome looks lovely on the big screen, but unless you are an avid Woody Allen fan, you can watch this one at home.
