The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra by Vaseem Khan
A sub genre of the English cozy is the Indian cozy, light hearted detective tales set in the subcontinent. Other than references to the terrible traffic and the appearance of the occasional beggar, the stresses of modern Indian life are not part of the cozy plot any more than the Depression is center stage in an Agatha Christie novel.
My favorite Indian cozy is the Inspector Puri (a/k/a Chubby) series, but a close second is a new series from Vaseem Khan featuring Inspector Chopra and his sidekick, Ganesha, a baby elephant. Also featured—Chopra’s frivolous wife, Poppy, his evil mother-in-law, who of course lives with poor Chopra, a trusty sidekick, and an engaging street urchin.
Rather silly but charming.
