About Elizabeth
A voracious consumer of all things literary
Dear Reader,
I’m Elizabeth, and I’m delighted to welcome you to this space—a home for those who find solace, adventure, and endless inspiration within the pages of a book.
Beginning with L. Frank Baum’s delightful Oz novels (yes, there are over a dozen in the series), I have always been a reader. Even the dreadful books we read in school (and I am dating myself here) such as Silas Marner, A Separate Peace, and Lord of the Flies couldn’t dampen my enthusiasm for reading. (Really what were educators thinking back then?) Happily, the world of reading is bigger than middle school summer reading lists!
Knowing that I was a voracious reader, friends frequently asked me for a book recommendation. Since I had lots of suggestions, I decided to share my good reads in a monthly (paper!) newsletter.
Starting eighteen years ago, my newsletter included two or three book reviews as well as information about the Nashville real estate market (my day job.) An electronic version replaced the print version of my monthly missive, and now all my reviews are available on this site.
Like most readers I have my go-to genres. I love all manner of murder mystery, Nordic, police procedural, English cozy, and legal thrillers. Biography and World War II non-fiction are heavily represented on my bookshelf along with beach reads and literary fiction. I am less enamored of fantasy, science fiction, and romance.
My reviews are entertaining, personal, and conversational and strive to answer the basic question– do you want to read this book or not. Most of my reviews are positive. If a book is truly dreadful, I don’t feature it. Occasionally, I may mention that I am disappointed with a favorite author. (Murder mysteries series in particular tend to go off the rails after a dozen or so novels.)
When you are looking for a good read, I hope you find it on this site, because the next best thing to reading a good book is sharing it with a friend.
Happy Reading.
Elizabeth
