Sequels are often disappointing, but Miss Buncle Married is as charming as the previous novel, Miss Buncle’s Book, although it is more overtly a romance novel.
Barbara Buncle and her husband, publisher Arthur Abbott, begin married life in Wandlebury, an hour from London. Barbara delights in decorating the house, meeting her neighbors, and adjusting, as newlyweds must, to cohabitation.
Arthur commutes to his job in London where at the request of his sister-in-law he recently hired his nephew, Sam Abbott. Arthur is not overly impressed with his nephew’s work ethic, but Barbara insists that he invite the young man to visit for a few days. During Sam’s visit, the Abbotts meet Jerry Cobbe, a young woman who runs her own stables.
Sam and Jerry are smitten, and familiar romance novel tropes ensue, including a disputed inheritance!
Delightful.
