The Mitford Murders by Jessica Fellowes
With Mitford mania in perpetual bloom, it was only a matter of time before some enterprising author wrote a mystery series featuring the Mitford sisters. And not surprisingly that someone is Jessica Fellowes, author of five companion books to the Downton Abbey TV series and niece of Downton Abbey creator, writer, and executive producer, Julian Fellowes.
Using a formula that made Downton Abbey so popular, the novel features an upstairs/downstairs team of amateur sleuths, nursery maid Louisa Cannon and the eldest Mitford sister, Nancy.
When Nancy reads about the death of nurse Florence Nightingale Shore, she is intrigued. (“Beastly Scale-ten”) But when it is revealed that Shore was killed on her way to visit the sister of the girls’ dear Nanny Blor, Nancy, with Louisa reluctantly in tow, is determined to meddle in the case.
A completely silly novel, but if you are a fan of the Mitfords or English country house murders, you will enjoy it.
