Philadelphia lawyer Mary DiNunzio has a soft spot for the underdog much to the dismay of her colleagues in the all-female firm of Rosato & Associates. When Mary is hired by a thirteen-year-old, they are unsurprised. When the client wants to set her sister’s murderer free, they are appalled.
Eventually the gals rally ‘round in the 12th novel in the Rosato & Associates mystery series by Lisa Scottoline. Despite the absence of an English village setting, an amateur sleuth, and a pond of red herrings, Scottoline’s novels are “cozier” than the legal thrillers of her peers Scott Turow or Michael Connelly. Mary’s meddling Italian-American parents, her boyfriend, and her clothing insecurities are given as much ink as the pursuit of justice.
A likable and clever mystery.
