Hunting Game by Helene Tursten
It’s moose hunting season in Sweden, and twenty-eight-year-old Embla Nyström, a Detective Inspector in the Västra Götaland County Bureau of Investigation’s mobile unit (VGM) is looking forward to the annual hunt with family and friends. Because the hunting rights have been in the same families for generations, most members of the hunting party know each other well. Even the new face, Peter, is familiar as he recently assumed his father’s rights after a long absence.
As the week-long hunt begins, a few weird incidents are followed by the disappearance of two of the members, one of whom is found dead in a half-frozen lake.
Isolated in the wilderness, it is unpleasantly apparent that the killer must be one of the hunting party. With one member of the party still missing, Embla must dig into each hunters’ past to discover who done it.
An atmospheric twist on the locked door mystery.
Hunting Game is author Tursten’s new crime series which follows her Irene Huss series, which I loved! I haven’t fully warmed up to Embla yet, but look forward to more of this series.
WHAT OTHER REVIEWERS SAY
BBC Culture: “Haunted, driven, immensely human and highly trained as a hunter and a tracker, Embla is a winning new Scandinavian noir lead.”
