The Maid

The Maid by Nita Prose

Molly is the maid every hotel wishes they had on their payroll. Obsessively tidy, punctual, and methodical, Molly cleans each room at the Regency Grand Hotel as if it is a surgical theater.  “Your room has been returned to a state of perfection,” she cheerfully exclaims as she finishes her work.

Molly is less accomplished outside of the hotel. Her social skills are limited, and her frankness makes others uncomfortable. Until her recent death, Molly’s Gran helped her interpret the world’s subtilties, but now Molly is alone.

Molly’s simple life is upturned when she discovers a guest of the hotel murdered in his bed. Being completely transparent herself, Molly’s trusting nature does not serve her well in the ensuing investigation in which she is a prime suspect.

Fortunately, unexpected friends come to the rescue, and Molly learns that she too can be subtle.

If you enjoyed Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, you will love this charming novel too.

WHAT OTHER REVIEWERS SAY

The New York Times Book Review: Prose threads a steady needle with the intricate plotting, the locked-room elements of the mystery, and especially Molly’s character….The reader comes to understand Molly’s worldview, and to sympathize with her longing to be accepted—a quest that gives The Maid real emotional heft.”
