My Name is Lucy Barton

My Name is Lucy Barton by Elizabeth Strout

It has been several months since I read My Name is Lucy Barton, so in preparation for this review, I thought I’d skim a few pages just to refresh my memory. Well, a few hours later, hunched over my desk, not even bothering to move to a comfy chair, I had reread the entire novel.  It’s that good; a one sitting read.

This is all the more surprising since I loathed Strout’s Olive Kitteridge (despite the Pulitzer.)

WHAT OTHER REVIEWERS SAY

Ann Patchett: “How Elizabeth Strout makes you care so immediately about Lucy Barton and everything she needs to tell us is a mystery to me, but she does it. I fell into this book as if falling down an open manhole cover. One second I was in my world, the next second I was in hers, utterly and completely, and even though the world of Lucy Barton can be a tough place, I didn’t want to leave it, not even after I was finished.

WHO WROTE IT

Elizabeth Strout is the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Olive Kitteridge, as well as The Burgess Boys, a New York Times bestseller, Abide with Me, and Amy and Isabelle. She has been a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award and the Orange Prize. She lives in New York City.
